Stellenbosch Week 5
Hey everyone! This week has been pretty good.
Today for P-day we hiked Table Mountain which was awesome. It's a really pretty hike, but when we started it was raining and cold. As we keep going it stopped raining which was nice. It took about an hour or so to get to the top. It was really cool when we got to the top, we were in a cloud which was cool because it kind a felt like a different planet cuz it was so misty, but also, lame because you couldn't see much of the view. It was so windy at the top it was almost enough to blow you over. I'll definitely do it again when there's not a huge cloud over it, lol.
Something exciting is that I got to Drive for the first time in South Africa which was cool, Elder Stock let me drive while we were on exchanges. It is weird because here the steering wheel is on the right side of the car and you drive on the left side of the road. It was fun, but something I am gonna have to get used to. Elder Haas doesn't let me drive, which is annoying, but I don't really care that much.
We had another exchange this week, but I stayed in Stellenbosch and Elder Stock came here with me. It was actually a really good day. I felt like I was actually a missionary because I was leading the discussions and was in charge more. I also I felt like I was able to teach with the spirit more that day than any other day so far. I was able to answer peoples’ questions and address their concerns really fast and in a way they could understand. We also met with our Bible basher friend Jacques and it was awesome because he'd try to make us slip up but no matter what he said I could answer him immediately and with complete understanding. And I gave like a 15-minute testimony of the Book of Mormon to him. It was cool because he didn't really know what to say, it kinda made him speechless. I felt like the spirit was teaching through me that whole day and especially our lesson with Jacques, it was sick.
For personal study I started a scripture journal and I follow along with the Come Follow Me book. And for me, at least, it has helped my understanding of the Book of Mormon a lot. Just being able to write down thoughts of to answer the questions from the come follow has really helped. A scripture I really like that I found while reading in Alma is Alma 12: 33-34 which both are saying that through the Savior’s atonement we are able to repent and be forgiven. And if we do so, we can receive a remission for our sins and live with our Heavenly Father again.
We had Stake Conference this Sunday and it was pretty good. My favorite part was when the Stake Patriarch spoke and he bore a beautiful testimony on how much our Heavenly Father loves each and every one of us, which made me tear up. He then asked that everyone sing "I am a child of God" and he just started singing his little old man heart out on the pulpit into the microphone. It was kinda funny but also really sweet and he brought a really strong spirit to the room, it was awesome he's a baller.
Anyways, I'm doing good still trying to get fully adjusted to everything, but I know that right now this is where Heavenly Father wants and needs me to be. So, when I remind myself of that, there is no place I'd rather be than here in South Africa.
Something weird about South Africa is that they call Traffic lights "Robots" which is stupid if you ask me. lol.
