Week 3 In Stellenbosch
All -
We taught so much this week, like 5 lessons a day on average, which has been good. It hass been keeping us busy for sure. We found this guy names John, well he basically found us while we were street contacting. He came up to us and said he knew who we were bc we had been meeting with one of his friends. He wanted us to teach him, which was great. He is the best person we've taught; he is so interested and basically mind blown with the Restoration and Joseph Smith. We met with him the following day to follow up and he said he felt the spirit so much when reading the Book of Mormon that he started signing hahaha. He's like a theater guy, though he's going to Julliard, so he loves singing. But it was so cool. When we'd explain things to him he would always say "wowwww! that's beautiful!" The next day he texted us out of nowhere and said: "I felt the spirit AGAIN!!! And I'm so excited to tell you guys about it!!" So, I'm excited to continue meeting with him. He was definitely the highlight of my week.
I've definitely noticed that my testimony and my understanding of The Book of Mormon has skyrocketed. And, it has started to become really easy to explain the gospel to people. But, I've also realized that this gospel is actually so sick and it literally makes perfect sense. My testimony of Joseph Smith has grown so much just in the last 6 weeks of being a missionary. I can't wait to see where my understanding and testimony are in the next few weeks. A question that I've been asking some new and older members Is "What does the Savior's atonement mean to you?" And, it's a question that I've been trying to find an answer to as well because of course it means everything because it's the greatest gift we can ever receive. But there is more of a specific and different answer for everyone that's personal to all of us. So, I think it’s important we all think about and try to find what it means to all of us.
My area and all of the Cape Town is so beautiful I've started to notice there is always really colorful sunsets and sunrises. It is awesome.
We biked in the pouring rain the last couple days this week which sucked at first but then you just accept it, hahaha. We had a lesson in Kayamandi, which is our township in our area, that was sad because the member family we were meeting with part of their home started flooding. Which was so sad. It is really humbling to see how these people live because they literally almost have next to nothing, but yet, they're so grateful for everything God has given them which is so cool to see. I love that family.
We have this weird guy named Jacques that is like a Bible basher, but he literally loves us and wants us to come over all the time. But its honestly a waste of time bc he disagrees with everything we say, so we basically dropped him. Then he texted us and brought us muffins and cookies, and then showed up to church. So it's kind of creepy because he is not interested in the church, he just likes us way too much. It honestly gives me weird vibes.
Elder Haas and I have been paying pass a lot together. We have been using a tennis ball so I feel like my stick skills are getting a little better in the sense that my stick is getting “quiet”. But, I definitely miss lacrosse so much. My love for the game has definitely grown so much not being able to play it a ton. I'm gonna be so excited to be able to play again for sure. Also, we've been able to work out a good amount too which I love keeps our mental health up.
For P-day we went to the zone leader’s area and played soccer and basketball, which was awesome and fun to play around. It was also cool because I got to see more of Cape Town and South Africa and it really is so beautiful here - the ocean and mountains (they’re not as good as the mountains back home, but they're cool too, lol). It's so pretty here, though. Somewhere that I what to visit for sure is the southernmost tip of Africa, that'll be cool.
Anyways, there has been a lot of little funny stuff that has happened this week, so I'm starting to enjoy myself a little more, but definitely still adjusting to being a missionary. But I'm sure I'll get use to everything soon, hopefully, hahaha.
I love and miss you all!!
GOD IS GOOD!!!
