Week 4 In Stellenbosch
I got bit on the butt by a dog lol.
This week was eventful for sure. On Tuesday I had my first zone conference which was fun but it was really long. Then on Wednesday, we had exchanges with the zone leaders. I went to Longa with Elder Summers. He's a cool guy, he is a little weird, but he was fun to be with. In Longa, it is just all shacks because that area is all townships. Which it is cool to see, but also really sad. There is sewage water everywhere, which is really gross, because they do not have real toilets and throw their sewage from buckets on the street. I also saw like 5 dudes just peeing in the street - that was funny. Also, the kids are so cute, some of them run up to you and just want to touch your hands because we are white, which is pretty funny. But the most memorable part was as we were leaving a dog came out of nowhere and jumped up and literally but me on the butt. It hurt at first, but it was more just shocking than anything. Gotta watch out for the dogs here for sure. I'm fine now though, it wasn't bad at all. I love dogs so it is something I'm gonna have to learn while I am in South Africa is that most of the time the dogs are not friendly, lol.
We're still teaching a lot. We have been meeting with this one guy named John and he's so sick. He makes our day every time we meet with him. He's definitely been prepared by Heavenly Father to hear our message. He understands everything we teach him. He has a testimony of the Book of Mormon already. So, we put him on date for baptism for the beginning of October. So hopefully he keeps that date. We've also been street contacting, which I don't honestly like that much. I know I'm gonna have to learn to like it though, but it is because we do it in the city, and that's where all the white people are, and most of the time they are almost never interested - so it's just frustrating. I like tracking a lot more because where we tract they almost always let us in, which is awesome.
On Friday I had my first district training, it was on how to recognize the spirit and that was cool. It was something that for me is easy to teach and talk about. So, I thought it went well.
Elder Haas and I get along well so far. One thing that I'd say about him is that he is extremely challenged with directions. Like it's really bad, lol. He's been in Stellenbosch for 3 months and I've been here for like a little over a month now and I know pretty much where everything is. It is really funny, but sad, sometimes because he can't even find the way back to our apartment from the mall, and it's like a 2 minute drive, hahaha. But he's working on it. I just think it's really funny. Today for P-day we went and to the church and watched lacrosse games on the computers, that was fun. Then our whole zone went to a sushi buffet and Elder Haas ate 20 plates of sushi, it was insane. He looked like he was going to throw up after, but it was honestly amazing because the average was like 10 plates maybe, and he doubled it willing lol.
A scripture that I found while reading in Alma that I like a lot is Alma 8:31, which talks about how if we act in faith and go forth and teach the people that God will help us by giving us power through the Holy Ghost. To teach and to protect us from the adversary and from the world. Pretty much Alma and Amulek are absolute beasts.
Anyways I love and miss all you guys!!!
