Stellenbosch Week 9, Baboons, Penguins And Whales

Image
This week was definitely better than last week, except we have had loadshedding every single morning and afternoon this week.  Which honestly sucks, especially at night because there is no electricity at all so everything is just pitch black.  It is like almost being back in the days with no electricity, it is just the best, lol … j/k … it sucks.   Highlight of the week:  We had Exchanges this week and I went to Hermans with Elder Cantrell.  He is a beast and I want to be companions with him someday.  He is so much fun to be around, and someone I think I’d be friends with back home.  Plus, we worked well together.  This was one of the best days on my mission so far.  On our way to Hermans, which is like a hour drive from the rest of our district, we saw some Baboons and a baby baboon too, which was so cool.  We also stopped by this beach where there were literally hundreds of Penguins, so that was so cool.  The Penguins were su...

Stellenbosch Week 8

All –  This week has had it's up's and downs. Honestly probably one of the worst weeks on mission so far.  I learned that my grandpa passed away on Friday.  So that was tough to handle while also still trying to be the missionary I want to be.  But, I've found comfort in knowing that I'll be able to see him again and that he's a lot happier and with grandma now.  It makes me appreciate the Plan of Happiness so much more now.  And, I'm so very grateful that families can be together forever.  Also, I am grateful for Elder Stock and Elder Cantrell, who are some guys in our district, as they came up to me after I got off the phone with my parents, and talked to me and just made me feel like I wasn't alone.  They're the best.   But on happier note I did see an old homeless man take a dump in the middle of the street. So that was just great, it was actually pretty funny, but also gross.  Also, we were working out in the morning and a cham...

Stellenbosch Week 7

What up guys!  This week wasn't bad, it was the start of transfer 2.  We have been doing a lot of street contacting and tracking trying to find the people who are actually elect.  We did start teaching this man named Leandro and his family.  We found him through a media referral.  He's awesome he takes notes of what we talk about during lessons.  He aways has the best questions too.  And after our lessons he always tells us “You must come again; I wish to know more" which is funny because of his accent but also cool.  There's a ton of crazy homeless people here in Stellenbosch and they always come up to us and ask for money, help, food, etc.  We try to help them, but most of them are too crazy to actually help.  This one guy who won’t tell us his name but we named him " 5 Rand guy" because he just sits on the ground and pretty much yells at people for “5 Rand”.  It's funny, but also sad, because we talked to him and he's only 25 but...

Stellenbosch Week 6

Transfer 1 down!!  Crazy to think I'm halfway through training, one more transfer to go and I'll be trained.  I kinda already feel like I am done with training and know what I'm doing for the most part.  Obviously, I'll never 100% know what I'm doing lol.  But most of our district is staying, however our district leader is leaving so Elder Haas is now the new district leader.  Also, I won't be the youngest in the district because an even newer missionary is coming this next week.   This week we street contacted pretty much the first half of the week because our teaching pool was getting smaller which happens when people become uninterested.  And honestly street contacting all day is not the most fun way to find people, at least I don't think so.  But sometimes that's all you can do. We did get a lot of numbers, like 10 a day, but it's a lot of sorting through fishes to find who's actually interested.   We got to meet with my favorit...
