Stellenbosch Week 6

Transfer 1 down!!

Crazy to think I'm halfway through training, one more transfer to go and I'll be trained.  I kinda already feel like I am done with training and know what I'm doing for the most part.  Obviously, I'll never 100% know what I'm doing lol.  But most of our district is staying, however our district leader is leaving so Elder Haas is now the new district leader.  Also, I won't be the youngest in the district because an even newer missionary is coming this next week.

This week we street contacted pretty much the first half of the week because our teaching pool was getting smaller which happens when people become uninterested.

And honestly street contacting all day is not the most fun way to find people, at least I don't think so.  But sometimes that's all you can do. We did get a lot of numbers, like 10 a day, but it's a lot of sorting through fishes to find who's actually interested.

We got to meet with my favorite family this week again, Brother David and his family.  Their new converts from Kayamundi, which is the township in our area.  They're the best because they are so willing to listen and grow.  Just such a humble family who loves the Savior.  The lessons are always really fun and cool to see how much they learn between lessons.  It was funny because the kids told me I look like Justin Bieber and that I that I should be a model hahaha.  Which is honestly probably one of the best compliments I've ever received -- It made Elder Haas and I laugh.  Also, they think I am super tall which is surprising, but I think that's because everyone in the township is pretty short.  I think they just said that because they don't see a ton of white people with brown hair so they probably think we all just look the same. But it was really funny.

We got to meet with John who's our guy that wants to be Baptized and it was awesome.  We reviewed the Plan of Salvation and he has it down pretty good.  It was funny because he also said I looked like someone some guy named Thomas Day, he's some singer, I guess.  John is convinced that Thomas Day and I are related.  I don't know if I really see it, but it was really funny cuz he was so extra about it.  lol. Hopefully we can get John to church this next week.

We had an awesome lunch appointment with the Homes’ family.  It's funny because they are like a big chunk of the ward, all the siblings live in the ward.  And they all have kids which I honestly didn't know they were all related until the lunch appointment Sunday after church.  But it was so much fun because it was kinda like being back at home for a family party.  We got to know a lot of them pretty well, and they gave us really good food.  More importantly we got to know one of the daughter’s boyfriends really well and he seems to like us. He is not a member and the Homes want us to get to know him well so that he'll be more open to hearing the missionary lessons.

At the beginning of this week our MSF ($) didn't come in, so Elder Haas had like no food because he buys his food for the week and eats all of it during the week.  Which is honestly a lot so it's kinda impressive, but also not really smart because when we had no money, he had no food lol.  But luckily for him it came during the week which was weird but also good.

The best lesson we had this week was a media referral with this guy and his sons.  We taught him about temples, and a little bit about baptism and the restoration.  He really wants to meet again and the whole time he was asking questions and it looked like the spirt really touched him, at least it looked like it to me.  After the lesson he thanked us for being so devoted to the Savior and for helping him learn more.  That was really cool.  He has a really interesting life, he is like a body guard for government officials and has beat cancer 2 times.  He's a beast.

A scripture I like that I found this week was Alma 19:14

"Now Ammon seeing the Spirit of the Lord poured out according to his prayers upon the Lamanites, his brethren, who had been the cause of so much mourning among the Nephites, or among all the people of God because of their iniquities and their traditions, he fell upon his knees, and began to pour out his soul in prayer and thanksgiving to God for what he had done for his brethren; and he was also overpowered with joy; and thus they all three had sunk to the earth."

It touched me because it shows how important missionary work is and shows the joy that comes with bringing someone to the knowledge of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.  There is no better feeling than someone telling you they know the Book of Mormon is true.  It makes my heart so happy for them.
