Stellenbosch Week 13

Image
What up guys?  This week was pretty good, we did a couple fun service projects.  The first one was we moved these huge pieces of turf from a high school to our Stake President’s house, because their using the turf in their yard.  It was fun, but the turf was so heavy it took a fork lift to pick it off the ground and into the trailer and then 7 guys to lift it off the trailer and into the yard.  Then the second service project we did was we installed an irrigation system into this big back yard garden that is used by people with special needs.  It was actually a lot of fun and I learned a lot.  Some of the Elders, aka my comp Elder Haas don t really know how to do any manual labor, so it's kind of frustrating and funny at the same time.    We had an exchange this week I got to be with Elder Cantrell.  He is awesome and he's definitely one of my favorite guys in the mission that I've met so far.  We were in Stellenbosch and we taught an aw...

Stellenbosch Week 12, End Of Transfer 2

Image
This week was the end of my second transfer.  It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer though, lol.  We got transfer news a few days ago and both my comp and I are staying another transfer here in Stellenbosch.  Which I’m cool with but after this next transfer I’m hoping for change.   Something cool we go to do this week was go play beach soccer with the young men in the ward.  And it was actually so much fun.  For a moment I was thinking to myself that I am literally playing soccer on the beach in South Africa at sunset.  It just funny because that's something I just didn't think would happen.  I just have moments every once in a while, where I’m just like I'm in Africa right now, still just a little weird to get your head around, lol.   Some funny things that happened this week is after church this Sunday the other Elders and I were getting ready to leave for a lunch appointment when some car pulled up to the gate to the church a...

Stellenbosch Week 11

Image
All - This week was okay I've been feeling sick this whole transfer but it's been the worst this last week.  I think I’ll go to the doctor this week lol.  We taught a good amount this week, our boy John is doing great and he told us he's really excited to be baptized, so that's exciting except he didn't come to church this week which was pretty lame of him.  We also had lessons with 3 new friends or investigators or whatever their supposed to be called.  But it went really well.  We taught them all the restoration and they really excited.  Told us they've been looking for a church and felt like the churches they've gone to in the past just weren't it.  They all were really excited to read the Book of Mormon, so we'll see how that goes. But something I’ve started to notice is just when the people you are teaching can feel the spirit.  Just by the look on their faces, the way they listen to what you're saying, and by the questions they ask.  So...

Stellenbosch Week 10, I Got My Xhosa Name

Image
This week has been good.  We met with the Sehlabane family which is our new members from Kayamundi which is the township here.  And they gave me my Xhosa name which is "Toando"; apparently means Love in their culture.  That was pretty cool.  They are my favorite people ever, their super comfortable around us now, they told us we're their brothers now.  And they say and ask us whatever now, which is fun and it honesty feels like I've known them for years when it's only been like a couple months.  I made them some cookies this last week and they went crazy when they ate them, it was so funny.  They told me I have to bring more, hahaha, so shoutout to my mom for the recipe.  They also give the best complements every time we meet with them we get something new.  Lol.  They're always so funny and kind of a lot. Ha-ha.  But this week I got "oh so beautiful like Troy Bolten." It was so funny.  They always leave us feeling a lot better...
