Stellenbosch Week 11
All -
This week was okay I've been feeling sick this whole transfer but it's been the worst this last week. I think I’ll go to the doctor this week lol.
We taught a good amount this week, our boy John is doing great and he told us he's really excited to be baptized, so that's exciting except he didn't come to church this week which was pretty lame of him. We also had lessons with 3 new friends or investigators or whatever their supposed to be called. But it went really well. We taught them all the restoration and they really excited. Told us they've been looking for a church and felt like the churches they've gone to in the past just weren't it. They all were really excited to read the Book of Mormon, so we'll see how that goes. But something I’ve started to notice is just when the people you are teaching can feel the spirit. Just by the look on their faces, the way they listen to what you're saying, and by the questions they ask. So that's been really cool.
Some funny stuff that happened this week was on Sunday we share a car with some other Elders that are like 25 mins away from us. They dropped us off at a lesson after Church and after the lesson we were going back to our apartment and we realized we left our keys in the car. And they couldn't come give them to us until like 9. It sucked because we had no water or food but more so because it was fast Sunday and we hadn't had anything all day. That was a long day lol. Another thing is that these 2 drunk homeless guys wanted us to give them our ties so they could "Preach the word of God" that was pretty funny. We have so many homeless people outside our complex. We know like all of them now, some of them are actually pretty cool guys. We helped one of them get a Job his name is James but he's still homeless so idk if he really got the Job or if it just doesn't pay well. Also, apparently, we're famous around campus. While we were waiting for a lesson to start a guy came up to us and asked is we were "Elder Quick and Elder Haas" and we were like uh yeah. And he was like oh yeah, I thought so everyone around campus knows you guys. Then he wanted us to teach him the restoration so that was funny. Hopefully we're known for good things and for not being like annoying missionaries or something.
We had Zone conference this week it was on Zoom though so it was even more boring than last time. All we talked about was rules and standards so it wasn't the most interesting. We had interviews the next day though, so that was fun getting to go to the mission home and talk with President. Also, on the drive to the mission home we saw like 10 Zebras in the fields next to the road that was cool, I wasn't able to get a picture which sucked but it was still cool.
I had exchanges this week with the Zone leaders and i was here in Stellenbosch with Elder Summers. He's a cool guy but our day kind of sucked because we had 3 lessons drop so that was really lame.
Overall, this week was just kind of mid, except we did find 3 new cool people.
Scripture 3 Nephi 5:13
"Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of Him to declare His word among His people, that they might have everlasting life."
I really like this scripture just because sometimes I think to myself why am I in South Africa right now like I could be home in college playing lacrosse and be with my family. But I like to turn to this verse when I get those feelings helps remind me of why I'm here. To "declare his word among his people". Even though it can be hard sometimes I know this is the best thing I could be doing because this really is the greatest work.
Anyways love and miss all of you, shap!
