Stellenbosch Week 16
Hey guys this week was pretty good. We started the week off with a Zone Conference. It was a good time. President told me I’ll most likely be getting a new companion this next transfer, so that was exciting.
I went on a transfer to Hermanus with Elder Stock from Wednesday night to Friday afternoon and it was a lot of fun. The first night he took me to a really good seafood restaurant, I took a pic of what I got (see below), it was really good. I haven't had seafood for a while so it was even better. But something awesome happened as we were eating: an older lady (who is not a member) as she was leaving came up to us and gave us 400 Rand to pay for our meal. And told us how grateful she is for the work we're doing. That was really a tender mercy and made my day for sure. The next day was full of lessons and service. The most interesting part of the day was when a member called us and asked if we could help them clean their house. So, we went over, and they live in a township, so their home is about the size of a small bedroom. But this place was full! It was really gross. We were more than happy to help them. We cleaned for like 2 hours and it was barely noticeable, that's how bad it was. I honestly have never seen more cockroaches in my life. I grabbed a suitcase from under their bed to fill with clothes because that's how they wanted it organized and there was probably like 50 plus cockroaches in and on the suitcase. Also, they had a laundry bin full of sheets and I took it off the shelf and it was just full of them. I've never seen so many in my life. It's really sad that they kinda just live with them. I felt really bad so I tried my best to clean as much as I could. It’s been really humbling and honestly makes me feel so thankful for what Heavenly Father has blessed me with in my life. It was a fun exchange though. I really like teaching in townships --- those people are the best!
Another cool experience was Friday night back in Stellenbosch. We had a lesson with Mark Harrison who was a really inactive brother and was super far away from living the gospel. And we've been teaching him these last few weeks because he wants to come back to living the gospel. Anyways, we got done with our lesson with him and told him we had another meeting with our friend John. And he asked us if he could come, so we were like yeah, why not. And it was awesome. Him and John clicked immediately. They talked for like 10 mins and we didn't say a thing. The coolest part was seeing Mark talk about his testimony of the gospel. It's so cool to see how much his testimony has grown these last few weeks.
Something funny that happed this week was while we were street contacting a lady comes up to us and asks us if there is anything in the Bible teaches us not to harm and eat animals. And we told her we're not sure. She then said we shouldn't eat animals. Then she told us to come over by her friends and talk so we were like, shap ok. It was a couple girls and dudes who were around my age. So, we shared what we do and what The Book of Mormon is and then the lady told us she believes in the universe and that nature is her church. And told us all these crazy things and about "Her truth" lol, which is always funny. But it was weird because it all suddenly shifted and she started flirting with me and giving me lowkey creepy compliments. And then she was trying to set me up with her friends. Then she asked if she could hug me and I was like …. before I could answer she just went for a big bear hug. It was funny but kind of weird. But apparently, they all work at a Big Cat sanctuary and she gave us her number and wants us to come. She said she'll give us a free tour. So, who knows, maybe we'll go, lol. I thought it was funny, and honestly, I think she may have been drunk hahaha.
Another funny thing that happened was we had a lesson in Kayamundi, which is the township close to our area. And as we were walking to the car, we turn the corner and these kids were having a full-on rock fight. Like throwing to kill, at least it seemed like it to me. Idk what was going on, but they were pissed at each other.
There is this really baller talk by Elder Holland. It's called " The First Great Commandment." It's so powerful. It straight up made me tear up listening to it. You guys should check it out for sure!

There is almost no group in history for whom I have more sympathy than I have for the eleven remaining Apostles immediately following the death of the Savior of the world.
