Attacked By Hornets
Hey guys, this week was pretty good.
Students should start to come back in the next week so I'm excited for that. The reason I titled it "Attacked by hornets" was because I got attacked by hornets, lol. We were out tracking the other day. We were knocking gates instead of doors because everyone has a gate, even the poorer communities. But this particular gate wasn't very loud because of the paint that was on it. So, I decided to use the mailbox that was right next to the gate and right as I did like 50 hornets come flying out at me. It's safe to say I can still move fast, lol.
-This week was pretty eventful. We got a random call from our friend John who we had on date to be baptized for a little while who then fell off. He called us and told us he is gay, which I already knew that by just being his friend. But it was cool because he said with this struggle, he's decided to come closer to God instead of pushing away. And he also told us he thinks he gave up to fast on the church. He told us he wants to meet up again when he comes back for school. Which is great because John is an awesome guy.
- 2 kind of funny stories this week. There is this group of like 6 kids that go around begging for food and money in Stellenbosch. Which is really sad to see honestly because they were just put in this situation because of the choices of their parents. But anyway, one night they came up to me as we were getting pizza. I'm too soft, so I bought them a few pizzas. But it's funny because every time they see we in town they run up give me a high five or knuckles and call me "pizza man". They're funny kids, I just pray they won't end up like their parents. The second story: we saw our friend Samantha who is a Crack head, lol. But it was funny, she come running from across the street yelling "Jesus guys", it made me laugh. She's a nice lady but definitely on some crazy drugs. Oh, and another story, we were street contacting and we talked to this guy who told us " I am a black Jesus". Which didn't really make sense because I didn't know if he thought there are multiple Jesus' or what, but after talking to him for a little longer, he straight up thinks and told us he is the 2nd coming of Jesus. It was really weird. Idk how you can convince yourself of that, but he managed somehow lol.
-We had another great lesson with our boy Randall. He's loving The Book of Mormon; we just need to get him to church. We also found this awesome guy names Grishiin. We were out tracking and every house we went to was either home or was just straight up not interested at all. And I kept thinking all these countless uninterested people will be worth it if we can find just 1 elect person. And the next house we knocked on was Grishiin's, he immediately let us in and gave us a drink and wanted to talk. It was one of the most spiritual restoration lessons I've taught so far. He asked such genuine questions and was so interested in what we were teaching him. He told us how grateful he was that we were there, it was powerful. It was a lesson where I felt as though the spirit was truly teaching through me. We set up a return lesson with him so I'm excited for that.
-One more funny story. They have these tent shops next to the taxi rink. And we went in there and looked around, it was funny because at the back there was like 2 tents just selling all sorts of drugs. It smelled so bad back there.
-Spiritual thought. I've been listening to some talks from President Nelson. And there was one titled "The Book of Mormon: What Would Your Life Be Like Without It?". It was so powerful it really makes you think. But President Nelson asks a few questions which are really great questions.
1.) "My brothers and sisters, how precious is the Book of Mormon to you? If you were offered diamonds or rubies or the Book of Mormon, which would you choose? Honestly, which is of greater worth to you?"
2.) "First, what would your life be like without the Book of Mormon? Second, what would you not know? And third, what would you not have?"
They are really good question. And we all know what the answer should be to the first question. But it's something each of us needs to really think about and decide for ourselves that we would answer. Personally, I know what my answer is. There's no sort of money that I would trade for The Book of Mormon. It truly is precious to me. And the other question I love they really make you think "How would my life be different". Thinking about it makes me realize how blessed I truly am to know of the power of the Book of Mormon. And it's something we can all have but it takes work on our part to grow and seek a testimony of the Book of Mormon.
Love ya’all have a good week
