Illange In The Rain
Yo, this week was good. We had some great lessons, especially in Illinge. Tuesday it started absolutely pouring rain, and there was lightning and thunder which literally lit up the whole sky. It made it look like mid-day for a second. But it was fun walking around in the rain and mud. Our alarm system to our church wouldn't set for some reason. And also, the chapel door is really annoying to lock. So, I was trying super hard to lock it and I broke the handle and the key off from the rest of it, lol. So, we had to track down the ward clerk who is an 18-year-old kid, lol. And we didn't know where he lived so we had to track him down in the rain, mud and dark. But we found him and we got the chapel locked up. Also, at the Queenstown chapel the storge room caught on fire and half the room is just black now.
We had a great lesson with our friend Thabile. She's getting Baptized this coming Sunday. So, we're super excited for her. She's super elect. The rest of our friends on date are all doing super well. We're just continuing to get them ready. Illinge is so much fun. The people really have the kindest hearts. Especially the kids, they love us. Always running up and wanting to talk and play. A lot of them don't speak much English. But the English they know is so funny. They always say " good morning " no matter what time of day it is. Also, the drunk people always make it interesting. Last Sunday after church we had like 10 drunk guys, and it was literally 11 am, lol. It's interesting because so many people just know us in Illinge. Everyone knows the Elders, especially the kids.
We are having a problem in the Queenstown ward with 2 people we are teaching, a mom and a daughter. The mom is dating our ward clerk and there are 2 problems: the first is that they are living together, but not married; and the second, is that they are living outside our ward boundaries. They should be in the QT2 ward. So, it's going to be an awkward conversation. But I'm praying that they understand and that it won't be a huge problem. I'm hoping that they'll be able to either live separately or legally get married. Cuz those are literally the only 2 options they got. I'm just praying they understand.
A spiritual thought. This week I read and gave a doctrinal discussion on a really great talk by President Thomas S. Monson. Titled "Be an Example and a Light". It talked a lot about how we can help others come unto Christ by letting the light of Christ within all of us shine. It talked about 6 ways we can do it. Which the apostle Paul talked about in
1 Tim 4:12 "Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity." The quality that stood out to me was being an example in spirit. President Monson said "To me that means we strive to have in our lives kindness, gratitude, forgiveness, and goodwill...We experience a special feeling when we are with them, a feeling that makes us want to associate with them and to follow their example. They radiate the Light of Christ and help us feel His love for us."
I know for me there are a couple specific people in my life who have been examples of "spirit" in my life. Who I have experienced that special feeling around. And it's because they let that light of Christ that is in them shine. Which then helps others grown their own lights stronger. So, I invite anyone who actually reads this far down, lol, to think of those who have been an example in spirit in your own life. And try your best to be that in someone else's life. Because God often comforts us through others. And I know the people who have been that example of spirit in my own life are those who I look up to and want to be like because they best emulate the Savior’s love. So let the light of Christ shine from you so you can be that example to others.
Love ya'll!
