Back To Cape Town

Image
-It was transfer week last week, so it was full of saying goodbye to everyone in Makhanda and Port Alfred. Although I was only there 1 transfer, I was still a bit sad to leave. The people there are awesome. I love the Eastern Cape.  Hopefully I will get to serve there again before going home. Friday, we drove to the Port Elizabeth Airport, and then I flew for about an hour or so to Cape Town.  -The first few days here in Elsies Rivier have been slow because it was Heritage Day weekend. So, everyone was just basically partying, lol. There are some pretty sketchy places here, like Belhar. We went contacting there and we turned the corner, and some crazy looking guy whips a gun out of his pants waving it in the air. We just walked right by him, hahaha. He was Afrikaans, so I have no clue what he was saying. But right after that we met our guy Whitney who was drunk, but super nice. Because we were lost in this sketchy neighborhood, he walked with us the entire way back until we fo...

Elephants And Transfers

-What's good. This week was fun, a lot happened. We had Lilithas baptism on Sunday. She was baptized in the river by the church. It was so sweet when she came out of the water, she had the biggest smile on her face.  -We got transfer news Saturday and I'll be leaving Makhanda/Port Alfred. Which is kind of sad, I'll miss the people here. This place is on the rise now in terms of missionary work. But, I won't miss the water shedding, hahaha. I'm being transferred to Elsies River, so that means I'll be flying back to Cape Town Friday. I've heard Elsies River is a dangerous area with a lot of gang activity. I think it's part of the Cape flats, not actually sure, but it's right in the center of Cape Town.  -Driving from Port Elizabeth back to Makhanda there are nature reservations on both sides of the road. As we turned a corner we saw a big boy elephant right on the other side of the fence. So, naturally I pulled over and got out to go look and take some...

Bro Canny The Man

-Went on an exchange to Kwano which is a big township near Gqeberha. Apparently, it's super dangerous because Elders who serve there aren't allowed to street contact or knock doors lol. But hey they find new ways to find. It's a fun place though, cool members. Elder Mumba and I found some Swaziland Tambor fruit at a fruit stand and yo they're nice. It's a cross between a grapefruit and a nartjie. Super good.  -In Port Alfred every night at 5ish we meet our guy Brother Canny in Nkwenkwezi. Which is the township in Port Alfred. Because he comes with us, we're allowed to walk around after it starts getting dark. Which is super nice, otherwise we'd have to go home because we can't be out by ourselves when it's dark, just mission rules for townships. Anyways, Bro Canny is the man. He takes us around to all his friends and people he thinks may be interested or who he's invited to learn more. He's helped us find multiple new people to teach. Member ...

Attack Of The Gate

Image
-This week was good. We had zoom zone conference, which is lame honestly. The instruction was good, just not as fun as in person. But we talked about the difference of a casual YSA missionary and a set apart consecrated missionary. -Our chapel gate battery was stolen so we have to pull it open. It takes like 5 guys. So Elder Killpack and I headed to the church to have zone conference. We just pushed the gate to squeeze through it where it's supposed to lock. I pushed it for him, and he got through. But, he went to pull it for me and that's when the wheels came off the tract and the whole thing came down on him. The electric fence on the top broke on his forehead. Luckily the heavy metal part of the gate just smashed his body not his hesd. But it's pretty heavy at least 300 lbs, probably more though. He was a bit shaken up but he's alright. Not gonna lie -- I laughed pretty hard; it was so funny. But, I helped it off of him. We both just stared at it and then both starte...
