Attack Of The Gate
-This week was good. We had zoom zone conference, which is lame honestly. The instruction was good, just not as fun as in person. But we talked about the difference of a casual YSA missionary and a set apart consecrated missionary.
-Our chapel gate battery was stolen so we have to pull it open. It takes like 5 guys. So Elder Killpack and I headed to the church to have zone conference. We just pushed the gate to squeeze through it where it's supposed to lock. I pushed it for him, and he got through. But, he went to pull it for me and that's when the wheels came off the tract and the whole thing came down on him. The electric fence on the top broke on his forehead. Luckily the heavy metal part of the gate just smashed his body not his hesd. But it's pretty heavy at least 300 lbs, probably more though. He was a bit shaken up but he's alright. Not gonna lie -- I laughed pretty hard; it was so funny. But, I helped it off of him. We both just stared at it and then both started laughing.
-I had the worst burger in my life this week. It was straight rubber.
-Makhanda for some reason is full of stray donkeys. Super random, but there's just endless groups of them. People sometimes use them to pull little wooden carts around town, kinda funny.
-Been teaching Elder Killpack to drive on the right side of the road (opposite from home). He's only almost killed us a few times by turning into oncoming traffic lol. He's getting the hang of it though.
-A member here, the same one who eats the walls of her house which are made of dirt, has these 2 geese that live in this shack apartment thing. And, the owner of the shacks said the geese honk at and chase away evil spirits, hahaha, so that's awesome. Luckily the geese are chill with us.
-Mama Stella who is a member in Makhanda feeds us every Saturday. She's gotta be one of the craziest, yet sweetest old ladies. She looks like all the old ladies from every Disney movie in one, if that makes any sense.
- In terms of teaching, it's going well. We're working hard and finding success tracking in both Makhanda and Port Alfred. We should have a few baptisms in the next transfer or so. But who knows if I'll still be here for them.
-Reading Alma chapters 17-20 I noticed something I hadn't before. In Alma 17:11 the Lord tells Ammon and his brethren "Go forth among the Lamanites, thy brethren, and establish my word; yet ye shall be patient in long-suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me..." The Lord tells them to be "good examples" of Him. We see by reading the following chapters of Ammons experience. Where he becomes of King Lamoni's servants and defends his flocks with the other servants. Because of Ammons example of bravery, courage, and obedience he was a hero to the other servants. And his faithfulness in keeping the commandments of the King astonished Lamoni. Because of his example he was able to share the gospel with the King and servants. This in turn made me think of how important it is for us to be examples of Christ to those around us. To be that light we don't need to go preach and be full time missionaries. But by our actions we can shine to those who are in darkness. I invite you all to go read Alma 17-20 and look at Ammons example and strive to be as he is. I can testify that the actions we commit have a huge impact on the way people see us. So, strive to be a Christ-like example. In the name of Jesus Christ amen.
