An Eventful Week
This week was pretty eventful.
-Sinakho was baptized this past Sunday, which was awesome. Also, on Sunday we got to be part of the worldwide testimony meeting, which was super powerful.
-I went on exchanges with Elder Lizon who's super green, lol. So, he got us lost in the hood for a bit and we got chased by a German Shepherd. The temperature was really hot and we were teaching in these homes made mostly out of metal so when we went into them I immediately started dripping in sweat. Great experience.
-I saw a topless homeless lady that was terrible and also sad. And I also saw a 1-legged hooker, which was also very sad.
-I also got to go back to Stellenbosch which was my first area on my mission. I went to pick up some Elders in my district to help them get a car. It was weird being back in Stellenbosch, but I am grateful for the time I had there.
-Brother Mananga & his family feed us every Saturday night. This past Saturday they gave us caterpillar for dinner. It actually wasn't as bad as it looks. I mean it wasn't great, but it was much better than I expected. Kinda crunchy and chewy. I don't really know how to describe the taste, but it wasn't gross lol. The only bad part is when you first bite it stuff squirts out in your mouth, hahaha.
-For Pday we went to Camps Bay beach where we played ultimate Frisbee and football as a zone. It was all going great until I went over to all our stuff and realized both my wallet and my phone were gone. As we were playing some kid or guy must have come and snatched it up. So that is really frustrating. Now I have to get a new card, ID, and all the shandies.
-I read a lot about the stripping warriors this week in Alma. I love their story and the example they are to me of what a true disciple is and what loyal sons of God look and act like.
" 20 And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all—they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted.
21 Yea, they were men of truth and soberness, for they had been taught to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him." -Alma 53:20-21
As well my favorite verse about the stripping warriors is Alma 56:47
"47 Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them"
What great examples they are of faith and trust in God. I too want to be like those 2,000 young men. And what I've learned is that to become like them it all starts with trusting God. Trust that He can heal, deliver, strengthen, and forgive you. In Jesus's name amen.
