Too Hot
This week had a lot going on. I've been sweating pretty much the entire week. On Wednesday my companion and I flew back to Cape Town for a meeting and then flew back on Thursday. On Saturday, I went on exchanges to the more rural part of Mdantsane, it was fun but just super-hot. Almost every house we stopped at offered us water or juice, that was definitely a tender mercy. The people in Mdantsane are very kind. I was with Elder Anjaramampianina, yes that is his actual name, lol. He's from Madagascar. He really likes learning slang words in English, so I taught him a few words as we walked. He is really an amazing example to me of faith, trust, and dedication to the Lord. While he's been on mission, just a short 4 months, both his parents sadly passed away. He was telling me how hard it has been for him, but that he knew this is where he needs to be. He has amazing faith.
-Honestly, I haven't had a crazy amount of time in my new area so I'm still getting settled with everything. We do have some friends who are progressing and will be baptized soon. Like our friend Anele, he is an older guy. His father used to be the bishop in our ward. But Anele always went to his own church, until recently and he has had a change of heart. He's powerful. On Sunday we spent a long time doing baptismal interviews after stake conference for a Mdantsane 2 Elders. The Lord is blessing Mdantsane!
-My guy Kamva from Elsies River in Cape Town got baptized this past Sunday. So excited for him! He is truly one of the most prepared individuals I've had the opportunity to teach. He is super humble and has such a strong desire to learn and grow in his relationship with the Savior. I've never seen such a change in someone so quickly from having no direction, being depressed, and lonely to understanding his purpose, having real lasting joy, and sense of belonging. The atonement works miracles in people's lives, it changes their hearts, and brightens their minds. Seeing the enabling power of the Atonement work in his life has only increased my conversion and understanding of its power.
"And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?"
-Alma 5:26
- A funny story I had on exchanges with Elder Anjaramampianina. We went to teach a "Tata" which means Grandpa. During the lesson I give him a scripture to read. And he was taking longer than usual to read a single verse, so I looked over at my guy and he was completely asleep, hahahaha. So, we wake him up, and he immediately stands up and he goes and gets a drink from the sink. As he's walking back, I notice there is a long dark path from his waste all the way down his left leg to his foot. Tata completely peed his pants. It was a very eventful couple of minutes.
