Electricity For Christmas

Image
Christmas was the first day of being in Africa that we didn't have loadshedding. It was so awesome. Makes me really appreciate having electricity and air conditioning back home. But it was a cool tender mercy.     -Tuesday, we ran out of electricity so we didn't have any all-day which sucked. So hard to sleep without a fan.    -This week was just another week full of tracking.  Which can get old when people don't give you the time of day. But we have been praying for someone to be willing to hear or message. And this oldish couple named Margrett and Averil let us in and we shared the Joseph Smith story and the Book of Mormon. Turns out they know a little bit about the Church. They do work on Family search. It was a great discussion. They invited us back for this upcoming Wednesday so hopefully that goes well.    -Friday, we got invited by one of our friends to play basketball with him and his friends. So, we went and Elder Howard and I crushed them. Ha...

Another One In The SA

Image
Yo, this week was good I guess some funny things happened.  We tracked SO much. We're getting some lessons out of it and new people so it's not fruitless.    -Tuesday, Elder Howard popped his bike tire so we had to walk the rest of the way home.  As we were walking, this crazy lady, who loves us, came running out of nowhere yelling at us to wait for her. When she caught up to us she told us how much she missed us and that when she looks at us she sees angels and that she loves listening to us. So that was sweet of her. She is homeless which is sad, but she told us she started staying with her sister in her house, so I was happy for her.  She also called us "Little Jesus's" which I thought was pretty funny.    -We had to help a member move on Wednesday, which kind of sucked because they had like nothing packed.  So, we had to help them pack and move.     -Saw a homeless lady take a butt naked poop in the middle of town. I t...

Stellies On Fire

Image
The reason I named it "stellies on fire" is because Stellenbosch has quite literally been on fire for the last couple days.  Kayamandi has had a couple power lines just blow up the last few days.  And some of the shacks have burned down, which is really sad. Last Saturday we were driving home and all the sudden a big flash of orange in the sky, and then when we got back to our apartment, Kayamandi was in flames. Also, when we've been on the outside of town parts of the mountains are just on fire.  It has been so hot here; I literally don’t have to do anything and I sweat buckets. Plus, we're in stage 6 loadsheading for power. So, at night, we don’t have power until like 1 am, so it’s impossible to sleep when it's 95 degrees in our apartment and no power for fans.  And, this is just the beginning of summer! So, it'll only going to get hotter. I'm just preparing myself for that January sun.      As far as our area goes.  Stellenbosch ...

Stellies Week 18

Image
(Sorry for the delay, I was out of town and could not forward Mas' email.) All- This week has been kinda weird.  We had transfers and I got a new companion, his name is Elder Howard.  He's a beast. One of the nicest guys I've ever met. It's nice to have a change after being with the same comp for 3 transfers.      We also moved apartments this week which took basically a whole day.  And our new flat is nicer than our last one but we don't have a gym in this one.  And it's smaller so we have to put our beds in the living room which is kinda weird.      This week has been kinda tough teaching wise.  All the students have gone home for the holidays.  So, our teaching pool kinda got wreaked with that.  The last few days we've just been grinding with tracking and street contacting. Unfortunately, we haven't found too much success yet, but we're still pushing.  We also got called to be the social media specialist ...
